What other charges are there for employing a maid?

Besides the agency fee, you should consider the salary of the maid which ranges from $350 to $400 for Indonesian maids, $350 to $400 for Filipino maids, $350 to $400 for Myanmar maids and $350 to $400 for Sri Lankan maids as well as the levy which currently is $170 or $295 per month. Also, there is the cost of maintaining and paying for the maid's welfare, medical expenses, food and lodging, etc.

What are the criteria to claim tax relief for maid levy?

There are certain guidelines that you may be eligible for tax relief if you meet any of the following conditions: (a) you are a married woman and has elected for separate assessment, (b) you are married and your husband is not resident in Singapore, (c) you are separated or divorced or widowed and living with your unmarried children for whom you can claim child relief.

What should employer do when maid went missing?

You should cancel her work permit immediately to stop the levy payment. You are then given 1 month to locate and repatriate her. Otherwise, you risk losing the $5,000 security deposit.

What should employer do when maid is found pregnant?

You must repatriate the maid immediately.

Can I employ a maid on part-time basis?

Present MOM regulation does not allow the part-time employment of foreign domestic maids.

How are we eligible for the low levy of $200?

The MOM will grant you the low levy of $200 on the condition that you have a child of not more than 12 yrs old or an elderly parent who is above 65 yrs old within the same household. However the child or the elderly parent must be a Singapore citizen.

How much must my salary be inorder to qualify for a maid?

There is no actual statement from the Ministry of Manpower on qualifying salary before you can hire a maid. The combined income of both husband and wife or the employed members of the family can qualify for a maid. From our experience, any combine annual income of $30,000 or more will secure a higher chance of having their application approved.

How long does it take for the maid to arrive?

From the date of application to the day of your new maid arrives, it would be about a week. However there have been a number of instances when we are able to do it within four working days.

Can we qualify for a second maid?

Yes, it is possible however, the decision rests with the Ministry of Manpower. But from our experience with other employers, if you have minimum of two children below the age of 12 years old or one elderly of 60 yrs old and above, you should get approval for a second maid.

How are the maids trained?

The maids are grouped together and train at our training centres. The training consist of learning housekeeping duties, ironing, washing clothes, cleaning and cooking. How does my maid send money back to her family?

You may wish to make use of the reliable remittance facilities that we have arrange with some of the licensed remittance company. They can assist you in money sent to either Indonesia, Philippine or Sri-Lanka. Home service are also provided at nominal fee.

Can we bring our maid with us when we travel overseas?

All the maids recruited by us will be issue with international passport (and not restricted documents). The maid has also got to meet the requirement of the country she is travelling to (visa etc), and is the best confirmed with the embassy or consulate concerned.

I already know of a maid who I want to employ in Singapore. Can you assist?

Yes, we can arrange for a passport, travel from her country and handle the necessary paperwork for a nominal fee.

Who bears the responsibility for medical expenses of the maid?

As an Employer, you are liable to pay full cost of the medical expense, including hospitalization. So its better to have insurance coverage for hospitalization expenses for your maid.
